The Dangote (http://Dangote.com) Rice Outgrower Scheme in Jigawa State reached a turning point yesterday when the President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote laid a foundation stone for the construction of a multi-billion Naira rice processing mill in Hadin, Jigawa state. The mill with a capacity to process 16 metric tons of paddy rice per hour, when completed, will in a year process paddy rice worth N14 billion bought directly from the famers in Jigawa at market rate. The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)-Value Chain Development Programme (VDCP) has commended the Ebonyi Government for inaugurating projects that impact positively on agricultural production. Sokoto state government said it has introduced additional incentives to farmers to in bid boost cultivation of wheat, sesame, garlic and onion in the state. Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal stated this when he inspected a wheat farm at Taloka, Goronyo LGA. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has said that it requires more funds to tackle the spread of armyworm in Africa. A statement issued by the organisation’s National Communication Officer, Mr David Tsokar in Abuja reported the Director-General of the organisation, Mr Jose’ Graziano da Silva as saying that the organisation had raised $13 million to fight the disease and had contributed $10 million from its budget.
