The House of Representatives has resolved to investigate alleged illegal fishing worth $70 million by Chinese and European trawlers in Nigerian waters. This was sequel to a unanimous adoption of a motion by Rep. Patrick Ifon at plenary on Wednesday. The 29 abducted students of Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka in Kaduna state, who were still being held by their kidnappers, have been released. The Chairman of the Parents’ Committee, Abdullahi Usman confirmed the release of their release by bandits to ChannelsTV on Wednesday. According to him, the victims were released at around 4pm, at Kidanda area in Giwa local government area of the state. Scientists have identified 26 Australian butterfly species and subspecies at greatest risk of extinction and those species were estimated to be lost within 20 years, media reported on Wednesday. Topping the list is Australian fritillary with a 94 per cent likelihood of extinction in two decades, followed by the gloriously named “pale imperial hairstreak”, which has a 42 per cent chance of extinction. The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, has expressed concern over new paediatric HIV infections in children aged 0-4 years. He expressed his worry during a national dialogue on Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV (PMTCT) on Tuesday in Abuja.
