The Police in Imo have confirmed an attack on the country home of Mr Ekene Nnodimele, lawmaker representing Orsu constituency in the Imo House of Assembly. The Commissioner of Police, Mr Abutu Yaro, confirmed this to newsmen in Owerri on Wednesday. Yaro said the attack which took place at about 1.00am on Wednesday also had a security guard on duty in the compound beheaded. A Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist, Dr Ephraim Ohazurike, says Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine cannot be taken as a protective immunisation against ovarian cancer. Ohazurike, who works at the Oncology and Pathologist Studies Unit, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, spoke in Lagos on Wednesday. According to him, most cervical cancers were associated with HPV, a sexually transmitted infection, saying HPV vaccine reduces the chances of having cervical cancer. Ohazurike said that HPV vaccine has no effect on ovarian cancer. He said that they were unrelated, pointing out that currently, there was no vaccine or medically validated screening for diagnosing ovarian cancer.…
The Appeal Court sitting in Akure has upheld the victory of Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State as the winner of Oct. 10, 2020 governorship election in the state. The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eyitayo Jegede had approached the appellate court, alleging that Akeredolu’s nomination by his party was unconstitutional. The Justice Umar Abubarkar-led three man panel of the tribunal, had on April 20, dismissed Jegede’s prayer on the grounds that it lacked jurisdiction on the matter. The National Agricultural Seed Council of Nigeria (NASC) on Wednesday in Kano presented certificates to 125 community-based producers in North-Western region of Nigeria. Presenting the certificates to the groups, the North-West regional manager of the NASC, Mr. Hudu Ubandoma, said that the effort was an approach to empower farmers to produce high yield seeds locally. He said that the producers were trained and monitored for five years before they were given certificates by the only body approved by the government for certification of seed producers in the country. Dangote Cement Plc has announced the successful issuance of N50 billion series 1 fixed rate senior unsecured bonds, under its new N300 billion multi-instrument issuance programme. Mr Michel Puchercos, Chief Executive Officer, Dangote Cement, disclosed this in a statement made available newsmen in Lagos on Wednesday. Puchercos said the bonds were issued on May 26 at coupon rates of 11.25 per cent, 12.50 per cent and 13.50 per cent for the 3, 5 and 7-year tranches, respectively. Specifically, the All-Share Index increased by 57.41points or 0.15 per cent to close at 38,564.70 from 38,507.29 achieved on Tuesday.
