Zamfara state governor, Bello Muhammad on Monday, presided over an emergency security meeting that lasted seven hours. The closed door emergency meeting, called at the instance of the governor, was attended by stakeholders who looked at the security challenges facing the Northwest state. Gunmen on Tuesday morning, attacked Nigeria Defence Academy, NDA, killing two army personnel and abducted one other. By Abujah Racheal Nigeria on Monday recorded 565 new COVD-19 cases and eight deaths, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has said. The NCDC stated this on Tuesday. The centre said that this brings the total infections, since the index case in 2020, to 187, 588. The NCDC attributed the surge to the highly transmissible Delta variant and low vaccination rates across the country. The centre also said that eight COVID-19 related deaths were reported on Monday, bringing the total fatality figure to 2,276. Developing countries are expected to receive $275 billion out of the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) $650 billion Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) to be distributed among member countries based on their quota shares in the IMF. Ms Kristalina Georgieva, IMF’s Managing Director, said this in a statement on Monday, in Washington DC, while announcing the commencement of the distribution of the SDRs.
