The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has inaugurated a committee to oversee the affairs of Rivers State council. A statement jointly signed by the chairman and secretary, Mr Amaechi Okonkwo and Justice Ihunwo, respectively on Thursday, said the decision followed a stalemate that suffused the scheduled August 12, 2021 election into the state council. The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, has dismissed an appeal filed by Mr Edozie Njoku and Chinedu Okoro challenging the judgment of its Kano Division on August 10. The Kano Division’s judgment had affirmed Mr Victor Oye as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), which the Abuja Division said subsisted. Ruling on the appeal marked CA/AW/256/ 2021, filed against Mr Sylvester Ezeokenwa and five others, the appellate court held that the appeal constituted an abuse of judicial process. Men of the Ondo State Command of the South-West Security Network, code-named, “Amotekun” have rescued nine of the 12 abducted Lagos-bound travellers by suspected gunmen in the state. The state Commander of Amotekun, Mr Adetunji Adeleye, told newsmen in Akure on Thursday that the victims were rescued after his men responded to a distress call from concerned citizens.
