Guaranty Trust Bank, now Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc, has posted a profit before tax (PBT) of N93.1 billion for the six months ended June 30, according to the Group Chief Executive Officer of Guaranty Trust Holding, Mr Segun Agbaje. Disclosing the company’s audited financial results for the period ended June 30, on Friday, in Lagos, Agbaje noted that the group’s PBT represented a decrease of 15.2 per cent, when compared to the N109.7 billion recorded in the same period in 2020. Yiaga Africa, an independent election observer group, has urged the National Assembly to accelerate the passage of the electoral amendment bill as it resumes sitting on Sept 14. In a statement it issued on Thursday, the group said that the passage of the amendments bill would strengthen elections by legalising the deployment of technology for accreditation, voting and transmission of election results. By Abujah Racheal Seven more people have died from COVID-19 complications as Nigeria recorded 559 fresh cases on Thursday, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said in its infections update published on its Facebook page on Friday. The additional 727 COVID-19 infections, on Thursday, indicated an increase over the 559 cases reported on Wednesday and was attributed to the third wave surge caused by the highly transmissible Delta variant and low vaccination rates across the country. Following a court order, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recognised Mr Valentine Ozigbo as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Nov. 6 Anambra governorship election. The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, has dismissed an appeal filed by Mr Edozie Njoku and Chinedu Okoro challenging the judgment of its Kano Division on August 10. The Kano Division’s judgment had affirmed Mr Victor Oye as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), which the Abuja Division said subsisted.
