Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, says Federal Government is leveraging alternative funding mechanism to rehabilitate old rail lines and modernise the rail system in line with its 25-year Strategy Vision. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged the National Population Commission (NPC) to periodically avail INEC the data of deceased Nigerians to further enhance the credibility of the nation’s register of voters. The INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made the request when he received the Chairman NPC, Isa Kwarra, who paid him a courtesy visit at INEC headquarters in Abuja on Friday. He said that the commission needed the data to remove names of dead persons from the voter register. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has urged electorates to assist the commission in identifying under-aged persons, dead people and foreigners in its voters’ register. The commission made the appeal following the display of voters’ register of newly captured applicants, in the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) which commenced on Friday. The commission said the display was essentially for claims and objectives. The commission on Monday, announced the temporary suspension of the CVR online pre-registration, and physical biometric capturing exercises, to embark on the display of the voters’ register. The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group has approved a new policy framework for the Independent Recourse Mechanism (IRM). The IRM provides individuals or communities who are adversely affected by bank-financed operations with an independent mechanism through which they can raise their concerns. They can also seek redress and hold the bank to account for ensuring it complies with its policies and procedures related to sustainability. The Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM) says the rescheduled Council Polls slatted for September 25, will no longer be conducted in Zangon Kataf and Birnin Gwari local government areas.
