Namibia and Germany signed a financial cooperation agreement that would see the latter providing about $170 million in a loan on favorable terms to support economic development in Namibia. The Nasarawa state government says it administered malaria preventive drugs to 775,905 children under five years across the state in 2021. Mr Ahmed Yahaya, the Commissioner for Health made the disclosure at a media parley to commence the second round of the Seasonal Malaria Chemo-prevention (SMC) campaign on Friday in Lafia. The Commissioner said that 816,532 children were being targeted for the second round of the exercise in 2022. The WHO says Nigeria is one of the countries that have reported cases of monkeypox. It says more than 3,200 cases have been confirmed in 48 countries and in five of its regions globally. “In Nigeria, the proportion of women affected is much higher than elsewhere. “It is critical to better understand how the disease is spreading there,” WHO’s Director-General, Tedros Ghebreyesus, has said. Dr Rose Gidado, Country Coordinator of Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology (OFAB), said the new rice variety on field trial as genetically modified crop would boost food security in Nigeria.
