Washington DC-based Nexford University, in collaboration with Tunde Onakoya Chess in Slums Africa, has awarded Nigeria’s Jamiu Ninilowo, winner of its novelty game, with 100 per cent scholarship. Google on Tuesday announced the selection of 60 eligible startups across Africa with $4 million dollars funding to enable them scale up their ongoing work. The programme, which is called Google Black Founders Fund (BFF) for startups in Africa, is the second phase of the global tech giant’s funding for African startups. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (UNFAO) has said that over 282 million people in sub-Saharan Africa face extreme hunger. “As we speak, 282 million people on the continent, over one-fifth of the population, are facing hunger, an increase of 46 million people,” FAO forestry management officer, Kenichi Shono, said.
