A Breast Surgical Oncologist and Assistant Professor at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, Dr Miriam Mutebi is first woman in the country to qualify as breast cancer surgeon.
She completed her general surgery residency at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi, followed by a two-year fellowship in Breast Surgical Oncology which included a year in the plastic and reconstruction unit at the University of Cape Town, Groote Schuur Hospital.
Dr Mutebi is involved in the training of cancer advocates in both Kenya and South Africa and is a member of the Education and Training Committee of the African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC).
She is the President Elect of East Africa of the African Organization for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC): Chair of the Kenya Society of Hematology and Oncology (KESHO) and on the Board of Directors of the Union for International Cancer ControlUICC).
Dr Miriam Mutebi is the co-founder of the Pan African Women’s Association of Surgeons (PAWAS) which aims is to provide mentorship and support for women in surgery, and to advocate to improve women’s health and surgical health care on the continent.

She is also a Clinical Epidemiology and Health Systems Research fellow at Weill Cornell University New York. She is the first African Oncologist to sit on he board of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC).
