The Jigawa State House of Assembly has approved a N58 billion supplementary budget for the 2025 fiscal year.
The approval followed the adoption of a report presented by the House Committee on Appropriation during plenary on Thursday.
Chairman of the committee, Ibrahim Hamza-Adamu, explained that the supplementary budget was necessitated by expected additional revenues accruing to the state from the federation account.
“The 2025 Appropriation Law appropriated the sum of N698.3 billion for recurrent and capital expenditure. With the additional N58 billion supplementary budget, the total appropriation for the year will now be N756.3 billion,” he said.
Hamza-Adamu also urged lawmakers to ensure effective oversight for proper utilisation of the funds in line with approved provisions.
The Deputy Speaker, Sani Isiyaku, who presided over the plenary, put the motion to vote, and it was unanimously adopted by members.
It would be recalled that on December 31, 2024, the House passed the N689.3 billion 2025 Appropriation Bill tagged “Budget of Innovation and Transformation for Greater Jigawa.” The budget comprised N90.7 billion for personnel cost, N70 billion for recurrent expenditure, and N537 billion for capital expenditure.
Lawmakers also approved an additional N17 billion for the 27 local government areas in the state.
