Nigeria’s Supreme Court has affirmed the victory of Umo Eno as the governor of Akwa Ibom state. The apex court also dismissed three separate appeals challenging his election on grounds of alleged certificate forgery.
The petitions by the All Progressives Congress (APC), YPP, and the Nigeria National Peoples Party (NNPP), along with their respective candidates, were withdrawn by the parties’ lead counsel after the court indicated a lack of merit.
The justices questioned the forgery allegations, highlighting the absence of evidence from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
The Court of Appeal in Lagos had previously affirmed Eno’s election, dismissing appeals filed against it.
