…..USAID provides sanitation kits to adolescent girls in 30 Sokoto IDPs
An NGO, USAID-Helping Hands Foundation, in collaboration with Momentum Country and Global Leadership (MCGL), have given sanitation kits to 30 adolescent girls at an Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camp in Sokoto State.
Distributing the items on Sunday, Ya’u Danda, the state Commissioner for Social Welfare and Humanitarian Affairs, conveyed gratitude to the donors for their philanthropic efforts.
Represented by his Permanent Secretary, Hadiza Galadima, Danda reiterated the state government’s commitment to sustaining partnerships with development organisations to alleviate the hardships faced by vulnerable populations.
“This gesture is a source of encouragement towards realising Gov. Ahmed Aliyu’s administration’s commitment to ensuring a brighter future for all citizens.
“Our words are not enough to thank development partners in our state, but be rest assured that the state government will continue to support your commitment to our joint success,” he said.
The Commissioner urged the beneficiaries to responsibly utilise the kits to safeguard their health and enhance hygiene practices for a better future.
Dr. Bello Kabir, the state team leader of MCGL, said that the focus on adolescent girls was to protect IDPs from contagious diseases.
He emphasised, “At MCGL, our main target is adolescent children, one of the most vulnerable groups experiencing violence in the society.
“Today, we carefully selected adolescent girls from this IDP camp to support them in maintaining proper hygiene,” he stated.
Mr. Bello Gwadabawa, Chairman of the Coalition of NGOs in Sokoto state, highlighted that the gesture was part of the activities of the 2023 16-Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the state.
