ASHENEWS reports that Nigerian governors have been invited to meet with the President of the Global Growth and Opportunities of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Rodger Voorhies.
The Director General of the Forum, Asishana Okauru, in the invitation, directed by the Chairman of the Governor’s Forum and Governor of Kwara state, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq on Tuesday, said the physical meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 15th November 2023 at 7pm.
According to Okauru, the meeting, which will take place at the NGF Secretariat in Abuja, will witness a few presentations apart from the Chairman’s briefs and the dialogue with Rodger Voorhies.
Rodger oversees the Agricultural Development, Financial Services for the Poor, Global Education, Nutrition and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene programs within the foundation with approximately $700 million in annual grant payout and program related investments.
He leads the foundation’s efforts to combine policy change with science, technology and business model innovation to: Alleviate hunger and poverty for millions of farming families in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia by increasing agricultural productivity in a sustainable way; Make high quality digital financial services widely accessible to hundreds of millions of people living in the poorest parts of the world; Promote foundational literacy and numeracy skills among children of primary school age in sub-Saharan Africa and India; Bring groundbreaking innovations in sanitation technology and new ways to deliver sanitation products and services to people in the developing world.
The dialogue with BMGF is expected to usher in new opportunities for states in the ensuing interaction with the interventionists in other areas including agriculture and poverty alleviation for millions of farming families in in a sustainable way; the conversation will also open up high quality digital financial services widely accessible to hundreds of millions of people living in the poorest parts of the world, for players at the subnational level.
