Giving an overview of the Summit, Prof. Muhammad Tsowa Usman, Chairman Niger State Committee on Green Economy said that the committee, in its bid to promote the reduction in carbon emission has taken practical steps to promote green economy while planning the event.
One of those methods adopted included the setting up of a forest of indigenous plant species at the venue of the program to encourage tree planting among participants.
This is in addition to the provision of mobile toilets, a reduction in the quantity of paper used during the program by making documents available on the summit’s website, as well as the provision of solar-powered recharging stations for participants who may want to power their devices.
“We have placed seeds at the back of all participants’s Tags to compensate for the carbon emission we incurred while attending the event. We hope that these seeds will be planted and germinated to protect our environment,” Usman added.
The two-day event which will end tomorrow is expected to provide an avenue for stakeholders to brainstorm on the very important issue of climate change and allow them to proffer solutions and recommendations that will help the state to take the lead in promoting climate resilience.
