The authorities in Burkina Faso have indefinitely suspended a privately-owned channel based in Ouagadougou, Radio Omega after describing its recent broadcast as ‘offensive’ to neighbouring Niger.
The station hosted Ousmane Moumouni, leader of an organisation calling itself “Restore Democracy in Niger” on Thursday.
However, a statement by a spokesperson of the junta said the interviewee supports “a cowardly and barbaric agenda to attack the brotherly people of Niger.”
The statement added that by granting Ousmane Moumouni an audience, Radio Omega has disregarded journalistic ethics and its role as a responsible media entity.
