A recent report says poverty remains a primary concern in Vietnam, especially in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic in spite of optimism about the country’s economy.
The Provincial Governance and Public Administration Performance Index (PAPI) Report reflected public optimism about the national economy, with 66.1 per cent of respondents rating the national economy as good in 2022, the local newspaper Vietnam News reported on Thursday.
The report also shows a shift in people’s opinions on the most important issues in 2022, with concerns over health and insurance issues falling sharply.
Meanwhile, poverty returned to the top, with 22.13 per cent of respondents selecting it as the most pressing issue, the newspaper said, citing the report.
The report also highlighted that although 56 per cent of the respondents claimed their household economic conditions were better in 2022; this rate was still among the lowest levels since 2012.
The newspaper said the number of Vietnamese who considered their household economic conditions poor increased in 2022, reflecting the pandemic’s ongoing impact.
The PAPI report delivers insights into government performance at all levels, with a record of 16,117 respondents randomly selected from Vietnam’s 63 cities and provinces.
It, however, assesses government performance in governance, public administration and public
service delivery every year and contributes to realising the 2023 legislative agenda.
