Following the announcement by the National Universities Commission (NUC) on the closure of tertiary institutions ahead of the elections, the Kwara State government has offered to pay 50 percent of transportation fare for students coming back to vote in the state.
This was disclosed by the state’s Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. Afees Alabi, on Monday in Ilorin.
The statement signed by the ministry’s Press Secretary, Mrs. Mansurat Amuda-kannike said that the government was also offering free buses to students of the University of Ilorin and the Kwara State Polytechnic.
Amuda-kannike said that the state government will disburse the funds to the students after they are duly verified.
”It is interesting to note that this 50 percent transport support is coming barely 12 hours after Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration announced free bus palliative for students of Unilorin and Kwara State Polytechnic which begins on Monday, Feb.13.
”I appreciate the efforts of the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration for considering student’s welfare with utmost priority.
”The 50 percent subsidy was meant to augment transportation fares for students returning to Kwara,” Alabi said.
