ASHENEWS reports that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Friday swore in 552 corps members of the 2022 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 set, deployed to Niger State for the mandatory one-year national service.

This online platform further reports that the State Coordinator, NYSC Niger State, Mr. Mahmud Hassan Taura disclosed this at the Paiko orientation camp in Minna.

“A total of 552 prospective Corp members have been duly registered and ready to take the oath of allegiance by the representative of the Chief Judge of Niger State,” he said.

The camp coordinator, while commending the state government for its continuous support to the scheme, also urged it to redeem its pledge of remodeling the camp for the benefit of corps members, and staff.

“Let me use this opportunity to once again review our passionate appeal to His Excellency for the provision of basic facilities in our permanent camp such as the administrative block, completion of parade group, provision of a Central store, completion of State coordinators residence and additional hostel accommodation for both Corp members and camp officials. This with a view to making the camp more habitable for both corps members and camp officials,” he said.

Presiding over the ceremony, the Governor of Niger State, Abubakar Sani Bello congratulated the corps members for the successful completion of their tertiary education.

Bello, who was represented at the event by the Secretary to the state government, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane tasked security agencies with ensuring the safety of all corps members posted to all parts of the state.

He commended the scheme for maintaining its mission, and urged the corps members to abide diligently by the tenets of the scheme in the interest of nation-building.

“As you should be aware by now, the National Youth Service Corps as an instrument of national unity and integration has over the years continued to forge socio-cultural ties across different ethnocultural divides of Nigeria.

“It has been able to sustain its mandate of mobilizing Nigerian youths and instilling in them, the tradition of dedication and regard for our collective differences, and you cannot be an exception.

“Let me quickly add that your service year is coming at a time the nation needs your dexterity as the vanguards of the society. You should use your energy, vigor, and enthusiasm to fully partake in issues of nation-building and political assignments that you might be involved.

“Youths all over must avoid the temptation of joining the bandwagon of undemocratic agitations that can be easily hijacked by miscreants and hoodlums. As youth corpers, you should see yourselves as progressives with the potential to lead the nation tomorrow,” he said.

Bello further assured that his administration was working towards redeeming its pledge to renovate the camp.

“Before the end of this administration, something tangible will commence at the permanent orientation camp. This, I want to assure the state coordinator,” he said.

Earlier, the chief judge of the state, Justice Halima Abdulmalik, represented at the event by Justice Maimuna Abubakar, administered the traditional oath of allegiance to the corps members.
