ASHENEWS reports that the Niger state governor, Abubakar Sani Bello has imposed a 6:00 pm to 6:00 am curfew on the Lambata community in the Gurara local government area of the state.
This followed the killing of the village head of the community, Abdulsafur Lambata by yet-to-be-identified hoodlums.
A statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane on Sunday, said that the curfew takes effect from Sunday, January 15, 2023 till further notice.
The government condemned the killing of the monarch, and described the incident as an act of lawlessness.
It also charged the security agencies to restore peace in the area.
“Government has condemned in strong terms the violence and act of lawlessness that has occurred in Lambata town.
“The imposition of the curfew in Lambata was to assist the security agencies to stabilize the situation in the area, save lives and enable the restoration of law and order.
“The state government called on the residents of the area to cooperate with the security agents in the urgent task of restoring peace in Lambata while urging security agencies to ensure the enforcement of the curfew,” the statement reads.
ASHENEWS gathered that the monarch, who was murdered on Saturday after a clash, was billed to be buried on Sunday morning in Lambata.
