Year-in-year-out, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has imbided the culture of touching the lives of the less-privileged, especially during the two Eids when the well to do and their children enjoy their wealth, with some not looking back at the haves-not.
This year, like every other, the representative of Sokoto North Senatorial District, barely a week after he secured the release of 50 prison inmates. This he did to enable them join their families and celebrate Eid-el-Fitr. And as my father told me, not only did the Senator secured their release, he also gave them some form of support to enable integration into their families.
On Thursday, Wamakko distributed wrappers to 10,000 indegent women and cash, including old ones, girls and the needy as a special Sallah package in Sokoto.
This is Wamakko’s habit. Yes, like breathing, if he doesn’t do it, he isn’t comfortable. Giving is what he knows how best to do. I will be glad to have this man interviewed one day; to hear what his motivation is.
This year, like other years, he did not entrust the distribution to anyone. Wamakko did it himself to ensure that all those women present got the gift; that they were not short-changed. Every woman got set of wrapper and cash for sewing.
Be there and you would see the joy on the faces of these women. Yes, Wamakko has touched and still touching the lives of those who ordinarily wouldn’t enjoy the Sallah the way others would. The Senator himself is a qualification, the like of who are very few. “Alu is one of the few leaders that assist the needy in our society. Only God can reward this man,” a delighted lady said.
