The Good Governance Awareness Initiative and Sam Empowerment Foundation with support from Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has donated food items to 50 widows and most vulnerable in Jikwoi Community in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
Onwukwe Kelechi, Founder of the Initiative, while presenting the items, said that the donation was out of the foundation’s sincere love to ameliorate the sufferings of vulnerable and the less-privileged.
Kelechi said there is no gainsaying that the Covid-19 pandemic has created extreme hardship on every segment of society.
According to her, one of the critical segment of the society that is easily thrown at the bush by government and sundry are the widows.
“Widowhood is a state that often comes with increasing challenges instigated by cultural practices as well as societal idiosyncrasies that denies widows their right to properties.
“In most cases, harassment, job losses and many other issues leaving the widows to fend for themselves and their children.
“We are grateful to our partners, the Federal Capital Territory Administration for their support in providing palliatives, and the SEF Empowerment Foundation for making this mission a success, especially in the aspect of medical services.
“It is our resolve as an organization to continue this mission to all the satellite towns in Abuja and beyond and we are calling on multilateral and corporate organizations to support this mission.
“As a non-governmental organization committed to giving voice to the sufferings of the populace through advocacy and education, it has become expedient for us to reach out to the populace in these difficult times brought upon the people by the pandemic,” she said.
