… Warns against social vices
The Sokoto State University (SSU), has matriculated 2000 new students into the various departments for the 2020/2021 academic session.
The Vice-chancellor of the University, Prof Sani Dangoggo disclosed this at the 8th matriculation ceremony on Saturday.
He warned the students against social vices, such as cultism, examination malpractice, hooliganism, indecent dressing among others, stressing that the institution had zero tolerance for vices.
The Vice-Chancellor enjoined the students to abide by the code of conduct of the institution, while advising them to be wary of bad friends and indecent dressing.
“As a means of achieving academic success, your statutory duties, include, but are not limited to attending classes regularly and promptly, writing tests, assignments and examinations”.
He explained that matriculation ceremony marks the formal conferment of studentship status through the administration of the matriculation oath.
“Thus, at this occasion, you the fresh students will be matriculated into the various undergraduate programmes of one of the best Universities in the country,” he added.
Professor Dangoggo told them that as part of the University’s statutory duties, it would organise an orientation programme in the second week of the second semester to make them acquainted with the rules and regulations of the school.
He thanked the Visitor to the University and Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwal for his unflinching support that made the institution attain an enviable height.
On his part ,the Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Bashir Garba, represented by the Provost, Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, Dr. Wadata Hakimi congratulated the matriculating students.
He urged them to take their studies serious.
Professor Garba assured them that the stated government is committed to making the University one of the best in the country.
He disclosed that, though the University is still a baby but he was happy to announce that its product is a member of the Sokoto State Executive Council.
