The Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu has reassured that the Kashimbila 40 Megawatt Power Station in Taraba will be ready in December.

Aliyu said this when he appeared before the Senate Committee on Power, for 2022 budget defence.

He said that the Zungeru hydro power project in Niger state would also be completed by December, saying that the Mambilla hydroelectric power project was also nearing completion.

“The Kashimbila power project will start operation after its inauguration in the second week of December.

“The federal government has paid the N10 billion owed contractors so everything is being put in place for its take off.

“We have scheduled the Zungeru hydro power project for inauguration in December. We have met with the contractors recently and they are looking at December, not in the horizon.

“Perhaps the inauguration could be extended to one or two months into 2022. I told them that we will stick to the December deadline. So, we are still working with the December deadline.

“We have challenges of security. They needed certain number of security personnel but they are only able to get half of the number they needed.

“They wanted the military to complement the shortfall so that the workers can stay and work on shifts and sleep there. As of now the workers are not there because of insecurity,” Aliyu said.

For Mabilla power project, Aliyu said that it was stalled because of legal issues stating that the Ministry of Justice was already handling the issue.

Sen. Gabriel Suswam, the Chairman of the Committee said he was expecting the completion of the projects by December all things been equal.
