Niger Tornadoes Football Club on Wednesday defeated El-Kanemi Warriors 2-0 in a Match Day 2 fixture at the ongoing 2020/2021 Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 play-offs in Enugu.
In the match at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Daniel Edeh opened scoring for the Minna-based Niger Tornadoes in the 82nd minute, with Munir Idris making it 2-0 few minutes later.
The second match of the day at the play-offs was between the Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan and Remo Stars of Sagamu, and it ended 1-1.
Anthony Okachi put 3SC ahead in the 81st minute while Morgan Agbeko levelled the game for Remo Stars in the 87th minute.
The match between Gombe United and DMD FC of Maiduguri was halted owing to a downpour which made the field waterlogged
Gombe United were leading DMD FC 1-0 through Sama’ila Bello’s 44th minute goal before the match was stopped and postponed until Friday morning.
The game’s remaining 25 minutes will be played from 8 a.m.
Also, the fourth match of day —- between Bendel Insurance of Benin and Ekiti United of Ado-Ekiti —- was also postponed till Friday.
It will hold immediately after the DMD FC versus El-Kanemi Warriors game.
Meanwhile, the 3SC Head Coach, Edith Agoye, has praised his players for raising their game in spite of the inclement weather.
“We wanted an outright win to confirm our qualification in the group, but Remo Stars were able to peg us back with the equaliser.
“I think the draw was a fair result for both sides as the final group matches will determine the successful teams,” he said.
Remo Stars captain, Junior Nduka, on his part said 3SC were a contender for promotion, especially as the club had been there at the play-offs for two seasons now.
“It was not a bad result as we were relegated the same season alongside 3SC and climbing back to the premier league matters for both of us.
“We are ready for the final match against Bendel Insurance and we need to get it right there to confirm our promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL),” Nduka said.
