…Police recovers toy pistols, investigates 2 trainers
Borno governor, Professor Babagana Zulum has directed the immediate suspension of a French international Non-Governmental Organization, ACTED.
The suspension, according to a statement by the spokesperson of the governor, Isa Gusau on Saturday, followed a discovery that the humanitarian international NGO was using the hotel in Maiduguri to train some persons on shooting.
He said the French iNGO was found using toy guns and simulators in training exercises at a hotel located off circular road in Maiduguri.
Gusau explained that residents near the hotel had reported to officials that they were hearing sounds of gunshots from the hotel, following which government officials reported the matter to GRA Divisional Police Headquarters, which oversees the hotel’s location.
On investigation, the police found some toy pistols at the hotel while two Nigerian trainers were at the police station for further investigation.
The statement further said that, pending the completion of police investigation, Zulum directed that the hotel should be sealed and the activities of ACTED be suspended in the state.
The governor appreciated roles of credible iNGOs which have been providing critical humanitarian interventions in different parts of Borno.
He also assured them of government’s continued cooperation and support while also upholding obedience to prevailing laws, policies and rules guiding all activities and actions across the state.
