The Delta Government on Friday unveiled a digital projects tracking portal as part of an e-governance initiative to promote transparency, public accountability and access to information about projects across the state.
The Executive Assistant to Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori on New Media, Felix Ofou, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Asaba.
He said the briefing highlighted the activities and achievements of the New Media and State Webmaster’s Office, particularly the digital infrastructure being developed to improve governance and public access to government information.
Ofou said the New Media Office introduced the online affidavit system adopted by the state government, describing it as one of the digital innovations designed to make government services more accessible.
On infrastructure development, he said the Oborevwori-led administration had renovated more than 150 primary healthcare centres, while several schools across the state had also undergone extensive renovations.
According to Ofou, roads, housing and other projects executed by the state government had been compiled on the digital portal for easy public access.
The State Webmaster, Louis Osiobe, said Delta had made significant improvements to its digital presence and cybersecurity infrastructure.
He said the state won the Best Government Website Award in 2025, adding that its official website had been rated among the two best state government websites in Nigeria.
“The state website has an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered read-aloud feature and has attracted more than 40,000 organic visits through Google searches,” he said.
Osiobe said the website had been attacked several times, but its security features had significantly reduced cyberattacks—from about 70,000 in 2025 to approximately 30,000 currently.
On the projects tracking portal, he said the state government had developed a centralised digital database containing information on more than 2,000 government projects across the 25 local government areas.
He said the projects were listed on the Delta State Projects Tracking Portal, accessible at http://project.deltastate.gov.ng. Integrated with Google Maps, the portal enables users to locate projects and access relevant details.
According to Osiobe, the portal includes projects across the state’s local government areas, with each area recording at least 50 projects, based on figures presented at the briefing.
He added that more than 75 per cent of the projects listed on the platform were reported to have been completed.
“The portal provides project status information and geographical locations, enabling residents, journalists, stakeholders and development partners to monitor reported progress and scrutinise government activities,” he said.
Osiobe said the initiative marked a shift from simply announcing government projects to providing an accessible platform where the public could examine project details, locations and reported completion status.
He said the state would soon launch “Delta Chat”, a locally developed digital communication platform designed to provide messaging and information-verification services.
The platform, he explained, would enable users to verify information about government projects across the state through its geolocation feature.
According to Osiobe, Delta Chat would include instant messaging and other social media communication features, along with end-to-end encryption to strengthen users’ privacy and security.
He said the project had been in development for about three years and would soon be unveiled for public use.
Osiobe said he was optimistic that the platform would improve access to information, strengthen digital communication and give residents another way to verify government projects across the state.
