The Kano State Government has begun an immunisation campaign against diphtheria in five local government areas across the state.
This is contained in a statement issued on Monday by Rukayya Suleiman, the state Risk Communication and Community Engagement Officer.
The exercise is being coordinated by the Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC).
According to Suleiman, the campaign covers Dala, Fagge, Gwale, Kumbotso and Ungogo Local Government Areas.
She urged residents, particularly those with unknown immunisation status, to present themselves for vaccination.
She also encouraged people whose last diphtheria vaccination was administered more than 10 years ago to receive another dose.
“The KNCDC is urging all citizens to get immunised against diphtheria,” Suleiman said.
She advised residents to participate in the exercise to protect themselves and their families against the preventable disease.
“Immunisation is safe, effective, and protects you from serious illness,” she said.
Suleiman encouraged residents to bring family members for vaccination, stressing the importance of collective efforts to prevent diphtheria. “Together, we can prevent diphtheria,” she said.
According to her, the exercise in Dala Local Government Area covers Gobirawa and Kofar Ruwa wards.
In Fagge, vaccination teams are operating in Kwanchuri and Rijiyar Lemo wards.
Residents of Dorayi and Kabuga wards in Gwale can also access the immunisation exercise.
The campaign covers Chiranchi, Naibawa and Panshekara wards in Kumbotso Local Government Area.
“In Ungogo, it is being carried out in Bachirawa, Gayawa and Rijiyar Zaki wards,” she said.
The campaign aims to strengthen protection against diphtheria and encourage residents to maintain up-to-date immunisation.
