The Sultan and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has condoled with the Chief Executive Officer and Editor-in-Chief of Hotpen Newspaper and Mahangar Arewa Magazine, Kano, Aliyu Dangida, over the death of his wife, Maryam Abdullahi Gote.
Maryam died on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Arewa Surgery, Kano, after suffering heart-related complications.
In a condolence message issued on Thursday by Bashir Adefaka on behalf of the Media Team of the Sultan of Sokoto, the Sultan described Dangida as one of the highly effective members representing the Northwest on his media team.
The Sultan expressed sadness over the death, noting that the deceased was a source of strength and support to her husband, whose contributions to Nigeria’s media and public discourse he described as valuable.
He said the loss was particularly painful because Maryam’s wise counsel and support had played an important role in her husband’s work.
“We are sad, but because Allah is the One who gives and takes life, we can only praise Him and beseech Him to forgive Maryam Gote’s shortcomings and admit her gentle soul into Al-Jannatul Firdaus. Amiin,” the Sultan prayed.
He urged Dangida and the bereaved family to take solace in Allah and accept the death as an act of divine decree.
The Sultan further prayed for the deceased to be granted eternal rest in Al-Jannatul Firdaus and for the family to be given the fortitude to bear the loss.
