The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) says it has restored normalcy after responding to a truck accident at Kara Bridge.
The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, disclosed this in a statement issued by the Head of Public Affairs, Mr Afolabi Olawale, on Wednesday.
Oke-Osanyintolu said the agency also responded to a fire outbreak in Alakuko, with no fatalities recorded in either incident.
He said LASEMA’s Tiger Squad was deployed to Kara Bridge around 3:00 a.m. following a distress call about a truck accident.
According to him, a 40-foot bucket trailer loaded with bags of flour overturned after crashing into the bridge’s side rail.
Preliminary investigations revealed that overloading caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
The driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital by officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
Emergency responders immediately began transloading the flour into another trailer, while the overturned vehicle was recovered with the assistance of two private towing trucks engaged by the police.
The damaged truck was moved to a lay-by pending evacuation by a heavy-duty crane due to extensive damage to its wheels.
The scene was later handed over to TRACE officials, while traffic was jointly managed by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the police to minimise congestion.
Oke-Osanyintolu listed the responding agencies as LASEMA, LASTMA, the Federal Road Safety Corps, TRACE, and the Nigeria Police Force.
In a related development, the Permanent Secretary said the agency responded to a fire incident at No. 15 Olayemi Olaniran Street, AmJay Hotel, Alakuko, in Alimosho.
He said the fire affected the top flat of a storey building and was traced to an electrical surge from a prepaid meter.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service successfully contained and extinguished the fire before the arrival of the LASEMA Response Team.
No casualties or injuries were recorded during the incident.
Oke-Osanyintolu commended all responding agencies for their prompt intervention, saying their professionalism prevented both incidents from escalating.
He urged haulage operators to comply with approved load limits and road safety regulations to reduce accidents.
The Permanent Secretary also advised residents to regularly inspect and maintain electrical installations, particularly prepaid meters, to prevent fire outbreaks caused by electrical faults.
He encouraged residents to promptly report emergencies through the Lagos State emergency toll-free numbers – 112 and 767.
Oke-Osanyintolu reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to protecting lives and property while ensuring the free flow of traffic across the state.
