The Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Board has launched a community outreach programme on health education to curb the spread of waterborne diseases across the state.
The Executive Secretary of the board, Dr Ruwanu Mohammed, disclosed this in an interview with reporters on Friday in Bauchi.
Mohammed said health education officers in all 20 local government areas of the state have been directed to carry out the exercise, particularly in hard-to-reach communities.
He said the campaign will focus on hand washing, hygiene promotion, environmental sanitation, routine immunisation, nutrition, and other health-related issues.

According to him, the initiative aims to strengthen disease prevention efforts and encourage residents to maintain safe and healthy environments.
Mohammed urged residents to adopt proper hygiene practices, especially regular hand washing with soap and clean water, to prevent outbreaks of waterborne diseases.
He noted that the state recorded low suspected cases of such diseases in 2025 and explained that the community-based approach is designed to reach a larger population through interpersonal engagement.
Mohammed added that the board will continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to improve access to health information and services, especially in rural communities.
