A farmer in Funtua town, Katsina State, Mr. Ibrahim Aliyu, has urged the government to address the high cost of fertiliser and insecurity threatening farmers this cropping season.
Aliyu made the call on Thursday in an interview with reporters in Funtua.
He described this year’s farming season as one of the most difficult in recent years.
“We are facing serious challenges this year, ranging from insecurity to the high cost of fertiliser and other farm inputs,” he said.

Aliyu urged governments at all levels to tackle these issues, which he said are now threatening peace and food security in the area.
He also highlighted the problem of produce theft, noting that criminals often raid farms at night. He stressed the need for government and stakeholders to find a lasting solution to insecurity, especially in rural areas, to safeguard agriculture and food production.
