The NDLEA intercepted an illicit shipment from China, including Dubai-bound Loud concealed in ladies’ bags, and arrested a wanted couple in Ekiti, a 75-year-old grandmother, and others in Oyo during recent operations.

An 84-year-old man, Godfrey Orji, and a 75-year-old woman, Godwin Obulunbiya Obiora, are in NDLEA custody for dealing in illicit substances, which they sell to teenage secondary students in Umuahia, Abia State.

Obiora was arrested on June 19, 2026, following credible intelligence that he was selling illicit substances at his patent medicine store on Club Road, Umuahia. During a search, 4.64 kilograms of opioids, including tramadol and diazepam, were recovered.

Orji, a pensioner involved in drug dealing, was detained by security guards at Saint Silas Secondary School in Old Umuahia for supplying drugs to two teenage students. The guards handed them over to the police, who transferred them to NDLEA on June 18.

One of the teenagers, a 15-year-old SS2 student, admitted that Orji supplies him with drugs, which he sells to classmates. While the grandfathers await court proceedings, the students are receiving counseling and rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives intercepted a shipment of ADB Chminaca, a dangerous synthetic cannabinoid classified as a new psychoactive substance (NPS), at a Lagos courier company. The 9.5-kilogram consignment from China was concealed in a carton. On June 16, another seizure involved 300 grams of Loud, a potent cannabis strain, hidden in ladies’ handbags at a different Lagos logistics firm.

In Lagos, NDLEA raided the home of wanted dealer Lukman Badmus (a.k.a. Lukman Ogombo) on June 19, recovering nine bottles of codeine syrup and 30 grams of skunk. A follow-up operation at his wife Aisha Saraki’s shop in Patey area yielded additional drugs, including two more bottles of codeine and drug paraphernalia. Ninety-nine kilograms of skunk, compressed into 42 blocks weighing 22.5kg, were also seized from a minibus parked outside her shop. An attempt by Aisha to flush some drugs during the raid was foiled.

In Kogi State, NDLEA officers intercepted a suspect, Tochukwu Onah, 33, on June 19, with 1.03kg of methamphetamine hidden in custard containers. Also, two wanted suspects, James Tony Chukwudi, 48, and James Kehinde, 35, linked to the seizure of 117kg of skunk since March 26, 2026, in Ekiti, were arrested in Efon-Alaaye on June 16 after months on the run.

In Oyo State, arrests included 75-year-old Tudun Olubiyi and two others—Nasiru Buhari, 22, and Buba Musa, 47—during a raid on June 20, which recovered 118 jumbo bags containing 1,416kg of skunk covered with sawdust.

On June 17, Patrick Imoukhede, 45, was arrested during a raid on Khagba forest, Ikao, where 1,744kg of skunk was destroyed, along with 169kg of already processed substance. Another raid at Ebora Camp, Ilushi, in Esan South LGA, led to the destruction of 2,425kg of cannabis, with suspect Augustine Anyamone, 45, apprehended with 395kg of skunk.

Across the country, NDLEA commands continued their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA), conducting sensitization activities in schools, places of worship, workplaces, and communities. Recent activities included lectures at schools in Ekiti, Kano, Nasarawa, Katsina, and Anambra, as well as advocacy visits to community leaders in Rivers State.

Chairman/CEO Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) commended officers for their efforts in drug reduction and WADA activities, urging them nationwide to remain vigilant and relentless.
