The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has ratified the appointment of Bala Yunusa Mohammed as Acting National Chairman.
Mohammed’s appointment was confirmed at the party’s 11th NEC meeting on Saturday in Abuja.
The appointment followed the resignation of the former National Chairman, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed.
The NEC also ratified the results of primary elections conducted nationwide ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Additionally, the NEC approved the appointment of acting state chairmen for Ogun, Delta, Nasarawa, and Cross River to strengthen the party’s structures.
In his welcome address, the National Secretary of the NNPP, Mr. Dipo Olayoku, stated that the meeting marked the culmination of preparations for the 2027 polls.
Olayoku explained that the party’s electoral process began at the ward, local government, and state levels, where members elected candidates to represent the NNPP.
He recalled that the party ratified its congresses in December 2025 and noted that, despite challenges, the NNPP had remained resilient and focused.
According to him, the meeting was convened in accordance with relevant provisions of the Electoral Act to ratify primary election outcomes nationwide.
He praised the party’s performance in the 2023 general elections, which elevated its profile and produced its first governor and federal lawmakers.
Olayoku commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its commitment to democratic principles and expressed confidence in its leadership and capacity.
He added that the party adopted the consensus method for its primaries and thanked state chairmen, executives, and members for their sacrifices and dedication.
The national secretary acknowledged that some elected officials had left the party through political realignments but urged members to remain committed and focused on improving future electoral outcomes.
