The Ebonyi State Government has lifted the over three-month curfew imposed on the Amasiri community following a violent boundary clash and killings in Okporojo, Edda Local Government Area of the state.
The lifting was announced after a State Security Council meeting presided over by Governor Francis Nwifuru in Abakaliki on Monday.
The curfew was imposed in February 2026 after fatal boundary disputes between Amasiri in Afikpo Local Government Area and Okporojo in Edda Local Government Area, during which no fewer than four persons were beheaded.

Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Mrs Yetunde Kolawole, Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), said the lifting order was total (100 per cent) and that schools and hospitals had also been reopened in the affected communities.
Kolawole noted that despite the lifting, security personnel would remain in the area to ensure peace was fully restored.
The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Justice Ben Odoh, said the council decided to lift the curfew after the communities showed remorse. He added that the state council had rejected the bill seeking to remove the Amasiri Development Centre from the 64 development centres in the state.
