Gov. Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers has commended the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for its contributions to rural healthcare through the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD).
Fubara made the remark during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch A Stream II corps members deployed to the state in Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area, on Friday.
He described the initiative as a significant intervention in community healthcare, positively impacting the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and accompanied by the Chairman of the NYSC State Governing Board, Dr. Dagogo Wokoma, Fubara expressed delight over the growing number of corps members posted to the state.
He said this development reflected the confidence of parents and citizens in the peace, progress, and good governance fostered by his administration.
Fubara assured corps members that his administration would remain committed to improving graduate youths’ welfare while preparing them for leadership roles. He urged them to maximize the opportunities during the orientation course to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Earlier, NYSC State Coordinator Mr. Moses Oleghe said corps members were eager and committed to making meaningful contributions to nation-building. He commended the state government for its support and appealed for a 1,000-bed hostel at the orientation camp to address accommodation challenges arising from the increasing number of corps members.
A total of 3,665 corps members—1,328 males and 2,337 females—took the Oath of Allegiance, administered by Justice Florence Fiberesima on behalf of the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Chibuzor Amadi.
