The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Lagos Branch, on Tuesday visited three companies on the Lagos–Sagamu Expressway to strengthen collaboration and enhance professional development.
The companies visited were XCMG Nigeria Company Ltd., Howo Sinotruk Nigeria, and CBC Global Civil and Building Construction Nigeria Ltd.
During the visit to XCMG, the Chairman of NSE, Lagos Branch, Mrs Olukorede Kesha, commended the company’s management for its support and partnership with the society.
Kesha thanked the General Manager of XCMG Nigeria, Mr Sam Wang, describing him as generous and supportive of the engineering profession in Nigeria.
She said, “We have done business together, and the relationship has been very rewarding.
“Your support, including a donation of five million naira to the society, has greatly transformed our environment.”
She also praised the company for its reputation for producing durable construction equipment.
Kesha said the NSE branch would strengthen collaboration with XCMG and recommend the company to engineers across various fields.
According to her, the society plans to send about 10 students to the company for a six-month industrial attachment.
Kesha added that fresh engineering graduates would also be recommended for training by the company and possible employment.
“We are confident that you will take good care of them. We look forward to more cooperation,” she added.
Kesha said the visit was part of the NSE’s continuous professional development programme aimed at exposing engineers to practical industry experience.
“We do not just come together for social purposes. We come together to learn, unlearn, and relearn.
“Industrial visits like this are mandatory for our members,” she said.
She added that XCMG was selected for the visit because of its willingness to train local engineers and promote technology transfer.
“They approached us and expressed readiness to support local content development, which is very encouraging,” Kesha said.
In his remarks, Wang welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the visit.
He said that XCMG, founded in 1943, has grown into one of the world’s leading construction machinery manufacturers.
He noted that the company has operated in the country for over 20 years, with more than 30 Chinese staff and over 120 Nigerian employees.
“We are committed not only to providing quality equipment but also to developing local professionals,” he said.
Wang said the company’s facilities could be used for technical exchange and industrial training for Nigerian engineers.
He added that the company shares similar values with Nigerian engineers in promoting development and building a better Nigeria.
It was reported that the visit featured facility tours and interactive sessions between the visiting engineers and company officials.
