The Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, has distributed food items to more than 7,000 women and vulnerable households to promote social welfare across Sokoto State.
Goronyo disclosed this in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Abdullahi Mohammed, in Abuja on Saturday.
According to him, the intervention involved the distribution of essential food items such as rice, pasta and cooking oil, among others.
He said the beneficiaries included vulnerable households in Sabon Garin Dole, Boyekai communities and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.
“The initiative forms part of the minister’s ongoing efforts to cushion the economic challenges faced by citizens, particularly women and low-income families.
“It will also enable them to celebrate the Sallah season with dignity.
“The gesture reflects a broader commitment to inclusive governance, poverty alleviation and community support, in line with people-centred leadership principles.
“The intervention also aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, which prioritises social investment programmes and improved living standards for Nigerians,” he said.
Goronyo explained that under the agenda, significant strides have been recorded in national development, particularly in social amenities, security and the construction and rehabilitation of key road networks.
He listed some of the roads as the Sokoto–Illela–Lagos (Badagry) Road, Sokoto–Gusau–Funtua–Zaria Road, and the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano corridor, among other projects across the six geopolitical zones.
He commended the president for his commitment to national unity and for using infrastructure as a tool to connect Nigerians.
The minister added that, beyond humanitarian support, he has contributed to critical road projects and other sectors aimed at enhancing economic growth and national connectivity.
Goronyo noted that the intervention complements ongoing efforts by the Sokoto State Government under Gov. Ahmed Aliyu, whose administration has implemented various welfare programmes to improve citizens’ lives.
He said the initiative underscores the importance of responsive leadership and targeted interventions in improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
