Senator Aliyu Wamakko has donated food items and household utilities to 1,787 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Sokoto State ahead of the Ramadan fasting period.
The donation, announced on Saturday, is targeted at residents of nine identified IDP camps within the Sokoto metropolis.
Represented by his Director of Administration, Al-Mustapha Abubakar, the former Sokoto governor said the intervention was intended to cushion hardship and complement government support for displaced communities.
“We have committed to ensuring that the living conditions of IDPs are adequately taken care of. We will continue to identify with them by providing for their needs to ease their situation,” he said.
He assured the beneficiaries that both state and federal authorities remained committed to restoring security and expressed hope that they would soon return home.
Items distributed included 200 bags of rice and maize, 400 bags of millet, 3,560 pieces of clothing materials for men, women and children, 100 cartons of vegetable oil and seasoning, and 70 bags of salt. Other supplies were tomato mix, blankets, casseroles and mosquito nets.
Wamakko urged the beneficiaries to continue supporting government peace efforts through prayers.
Responding on behalf of the recipients, Aisha Murtala and Asma’u Muhammad expressed appreciation for the support and offered prayers for the donor’s continued assistance.
