The Nigerian Society of Physical Sciences (NSPS) has announced Dr. Bello Alhaji Buhari as the recipient of its 2026 PhD Thesis Prize in the Computer Science category.

The Society followed a rigorous and transparent evaluation process, before confering the prestigious award on Dr. Buhari, a doctoral graduate of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, in recognition of the exceptional quality and scholarly significance of his doctoral research.

Dr. Buhari was honoured for his PhD thesis titled “Web-based User Authentication and Access Control: An Enhanced Multi-Factor Biometric Cryptographic Scheme Based on Client File and S13 Quantum Key Distribution Protocol.”

The adjudicating panel noted the thesis for its strong originality, technical depth, and relevance to contemporary cybersecurity challenges, particularly in the design of secure authentication and access-control frameworks.

Dr. Buhari obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (Second Class Upper Division) from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, in 2000. He earned his Master’s degree in Computer Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 2009, and completed his PhD in Computer Science, specialising in Cybersecurity, in 2025.

Since 2004, he has served as a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, where he has made sustained contributions to teaching, research, and academic mentorship. His research interests include cybersecurity, authentication systems, and cryptographic protocols.

The NSPS PhD Thesis Prize is awarded annually to recognise doctoral research that demonstrates outstanding scholarly merit, originality, and a significant contribution to the advancement of knowledge in the physical and computational sciences. The Society stated that this award reflects its continued commitment to excellence in research and postgraduate scholarship.

The award ceremony is scheduled to hold on 10 February 2026.
