The wife of the Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs. Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, has reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring safe delivery for every pregnant woman in the state.
She made the pledge on Thursday during a New Year visit to St. Patrick’s Hospital, Mile Four, Abakaliki, where she welcomed twin male babies born on New Year’s Day.
The twins were delivered via caesarean section at 12:22 a.m. and weighed 2.3kg and 2.1kg at birth.
Congratulating the mother on the safe delivery, Mrs. Nwifuru wished her good health and prayed for the well-being of the babies. She pledged that the Better Health for Rural Women, Children and Internally Displaced Persons Foundation (BERWO), her pet project, in partnership with the state government, would continue to champion maternal and child health.
Mrs. Nwifuru presented cash gifts and baby items to Mrs. Cynthia Igwe, the mother of the twins. She also extended similar gifts to mothers of other babies born shortly after the twins.
The Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Kenneth Nwafor, and the Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Dr. Ekaete Ehop, thanked the governor’s wife for her continued support and kind gestures to patients at the facility.
The mother of the twins, who said it was her fifth pregnancy, described the visit as a pleasant surprise, adding that the gifts would go a long way in helping her care for the newborns.
