Kaduna will host journalists, media professionals, and development stakeholders from across the continent as the 2025 Africa Conference on Development Journalism (ACDJ) holds on December 3 and 4.
Now in its ninth year, the annual gathering—organised by the Africa Media Development Foundation (AMDF)—has grown into one of the continent’s leading platforms for conversations on media, governance, and development.
This year’s conference is themed “Media and Inclusive Development: A Call to Action for Africa’s Future.” The organisers say the theme reflects a growing urgency for Africans to take greater ownership of the continent’s development, while positioning the media as a central driver of accountability, public awareness, and solution-focused dialogue.
Development journalism, they emphasise, remains crucial in informing citizens, analysing emerging issues, shaping national conversations, and holding leaders and institutions accountable. Through storytelling and investigative work, journalists help expose developmental gaps while amplifying practical solutions that can inspire meaningful change.
The conference will feature a lineup of speakers from diverse sectors. Among those expected to address participants are the Kaduna State Commissioner for Information, Mallam Ahmed Maiyaki; Dr. Yila Umaru; and Mrs. Sekyen Dadik, Executive Director of AMDF and host of the conference.
According to the organising committee, ACDJ 2025 will deliver “rich conversations and actionable insights” aimed at strengthening the media’s role in shaping Africa’s development trajectory.
