The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has reaffirmed its commitment to combating quackery in engineering practice to safeguard lives and property.
Shamsudeen Bashir-Ibrahim, the newly elected Chairman of the NSE, Katsina State Branch, made the pledge during his inaugural speech on Thursday in Katsina.
He warned that the rising cases of quackery in the profession posed serious dangers to public safety and eroded confidence in engineering practice.
Bashir-Ibrahim called on members to support ongoing efforts to curb the menace.
“Let us report and resist any attempt to sideline professionals or compromise standards. The integrity of our profession is not negotiable,” he said.
He assured that the new leadership would prioritise mentoring and capacity building for young engineers through internship opportunities in collaboration with relevant organisations.
The chairman also urged the Katsina State Government to implement the National Council on Establishment circular, which places the entry point for engineers in the civil service at Grade Level 09.
Governor Dikko Radda congratulated the new NSE leadership and encouraged them to be inclusive in their administration.
Represented by the Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Sani Magaji-Ingawa, Radda said leadership requires vision, integration and selfless service.
He acknowledged the critical role of engineers in infrastructure development, stressing that progress in the sector cannot be achieved without their expertise.
The governor urged the society to prioritize innovation and creativity to improve citizens’ living conditions and support sustainable development.
Other newly inaugurated officials include Abdurrasheed Balarabe, Vice Chairman; Abbas Sada, General Secretary; Anas Abdullahi, Treasurer; Ahmad Jibril, Technical Secretary; and Yusuf Murtala, Publicity Secretary, among others.
