The MTN Foundation has continued to drive growth in Nigeria’s creative industry through investments in comedy and other entertainment sectors.
The foundation, which brought together top entertainers at the Night of a Thousand Laughs in Abuja, said it had, over the years, funded museums, drama productions, comedy shows, and broader artists’ development programmes.
Speaking at the event, the Senior Manager, Sales and Trade Development for MTN Abuja, Mr. Fasa Obazenu, said the company had helped performers sharpen their craft, reach wider audiences, and turn their passion into sustainable careers.
Obazenu noted that beyond telecommunications, MTN had made talent scouting a core part of its mission by identifying and supporting promising artists across the country.
“Just like our slogan says, MTN—Everywhere You Go, we look for talent everywhere we go. The entertainment sector has shown remarkable growth over time, and MTN has always been a partner in that journey. We are proud to be part of that success,” he said.
He added that through the MTN Foundation, the company continues to support creative sectors including museums, drama, comedy, and other entertainment shows aimed at empowering artists.
Earlier, popular Nigerian comedian Mr. Bright Okpocha, known professionally as Basketmouth, said comedy in Nigeria had evolved significantly, noting that “today, comedy feels polished,” compared to its early street-level beginnings.
He urged Nigerians to appreciate and enjoy the art form itself rather than focus on the personalities behind it, while hinting at his upcoming event scheduled to hold in Abuja.
It was reported that the event brought together key stakeholders in the entertainment industry for an evening of networking and performances.
