The Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC), a member of Coca-Cola Hellenic Beverage Company (CCHBC), has shown its commitment to sustainability and community support by holding an environmental awareness walk in Apapa, Lagos, to mark World Clean-Up Day.
The event brought together volunteers from NBC’s Ikeja Plant, its Head Office at Iddo House, and its recycling plant in Apapa. They were joined by Apapa Local Government officials, community leaders, and youth groups. During the walk, volunteers engaged residents on the importance of proper waste management and recycling as part of daily life.
NBC’s Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Director, Soromidayo George, explained that the walk was part of the company’s broader Waste-to-Wealth programme.
“What we are doing here goes beyond picking plastics; it is about creating awareness and changing mindsets. Recycling is not only good for the environment but also creates economic opportunities. Our employees who volunteered today are sustainability champions. Together with the community, we are building a cleaner and greener Apapa,” she said.
She added that since NBC launched its Apapa recycling plant in January 2025, the company has continued to strengthen its role in Lagos State’s green economy. The plant, she noted, has created jobs and become a model for others in the recycling sector, showing NBC’s long-term investment in sustainability.
Youth Coordinator of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Apapa chapter, Samuel Idoko, said the initiative supported ongoing youth-led recycling projects.
Chairman of the Azare Community Development Association, Jide Santos, also praised NBC for its consistent presence in Apapa and its role in promoting environmental awareness across the community.
