The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized large consignments of skunk and opioids in Adamawa, Zamfara, Yobe and Taraba states.
NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said on Sunday in Abuja that operatives recovered 233,800 tramadol pills in Adamawa during three raids that led to two arrests.
He said 195,600 pills were abandoned in a Toyota Sienna at Mayo-Belwa, while 27,900 pills were found in a woman’s bedroom in Jambutu, Yola. Another suspect was caught with 10,300 pills at the Namtari checkpoint.
In Zamfara, operatives, assisted by Community Protection Guards, intercepted a Mitsubishi Canter truck on the Gummi-Daki Takwas road carrying 109 bags of skunk (1,099.4kg). The consignment was headed to a village called Company in Gummi LGA.
Two suspects were also arrested in Yobe with 14,000 tramadol capsules along the Damaturu-Potiskum road, while in Taraba, a suspect was caught with three sacks of skunk weighing 25.5kg at Garba-Chede, Bali LGA.
Babafemi added that NDLEA commands nationwide continued their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation last week, visiting schools, worship centres, workplaces and communities.
The outreach included Sultan Abdulrahman College of Health Technology, Sokoto; Sarki Abdul Primary School, Katsina; Government Secondary School, Jigawa; St. Mary Junior Secondary School, Benue; and Ummulkhair Islamiyya, Kano.
The Zone 11 Command also paid an advocacy visit to Enugu State First Lady, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah.
