Jobberman Nigeria, in partnership with Mastercard Foundation, has organized a career clinic in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, to support young professionals, business owners, and aspiring talents.

The event, which held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, was themed “Your Career Compass: Gain Clarity in Work and Business.” It was designed to provide participants with the guidance and tools needed to grow in their careers or businesses.

In his keynote speech, Mr. Gideon Ikyernum encouraged the youths to be determined in their chosen careers if they want to succeed. He said they should not allow others to dictate their career paths but should instead discover their passion and follow it.

Ikyernum, who is the Founder and Managing Director of Gandaria Ventures Limited, advised young people to take advantage of opportunities around them. He told them not to wait for perfect conditions before starting. “No matter your disadvantages, once you start something and remain consistent, you will see results,” he said.

He further explained that there is no shortcut to success. According to him, breakthroughs usually come when people remain committed and do their work well. He urged participants to make good use of the training and remain focused in order to succeed in their businesses.

Speaking at the event, Jobberman Nigeria’s Head of Marketing, Mr. Babajide Anjorin, said the programme was organized to help young talents in Benue acquire the right skills for interviews, CV preparation, and career growth. He added that there was also a special session for entrepreneurs to learn how to grow their businesses.

Anjorin said Jobberman expects participants to put into practice the skills and knowledge gained from the clinic. He added that counsellors would follow up with participants to ensure the impact of the training is felt in their lives.

He explained that Jobberman, a leading career development and recruitment company, came with professionals to train young entrepreneurs on how to manage their businesses, finances, staff, and customers. The organization, with support from Mastercard Foundation and the Benue State Government, has also trained Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and young women, who make up 80% of the beneficiaries.

He urged youths to keep seeking opportunities, embrace mentorship, and prepare themselves for jobs both within and outside the country.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Theresa Ikwue, thanked Jobberman for bringing the programme to Benue. She said such opportunities would help people grow their businesses, gain knowledge, and become self-reliant.

Represented by Mrs. Magdalene Andor, Director of Women Affairs, Ikwue said the initiative would help reduce the challenges faced by women and youths. She also assured that the state government is ready to partner with Jobberman to address issues like Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and other economic problems.

She noted that Jobberman has long supported the ministry by mobilizing and training women through different capacity-building programmes.

Participants also shared their excitement about the training. Abigail Oche, a fresh graduate from Rev Fr Moses Orshio Adasu University Makurdi (MOAUM), said the one-on-one counselling gave her confidence. “I will now explore the ideas I had in mind. I have learnt the value of networking, leveraging opportunities, and volunteering because they build skills and confidence,” she said.

Another participant, Mr. Tor Raphael, a small business owner, said the training gave him clarity on how to grow his business. Both participants appealed to Jobberman to extend such training to schools, communities, and other social institutions.

The event also featured a panel session and breakout discussions where experts shared practical tips on personal development, entrepreneurship, and leadership.

The panelists included Mr. Jonathan Isah, Lead Strategist of iRead Africa Consulting; Arc. Nguvan Kyenge, Founder of The Mindset Series International; Dr. Victoria Daaor, Founder of Elohim Development Foundation; and Hon. Anne Kadev, Special Adviser to the Governor on Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.

The Benue Career Clinic is part of Jobberman’s broader effort to equip Nigerians with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities they need to succeed in today’s changing economy.
