FHA to begin nationwide housing groundbreakings

The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) has announced plans to begin ground-breaking ceremonies for housing projects across the country. It also called on Nigerians to register early so they can benefit from affordable housing opportunities.

FHA Managing Director and Chief Executive, Mr. Oyetunde Ojo, revealed this on Tuesday in Abuja during the commissioning of a new road inside the FHA Estate, Apo-Guzape.

He said, “We are about to start nationwide ground-breaking for our housing projects. We encourage Nigerians to register early on the FHA website or at our zonal offices.”

Ojo explained that the FHA operates with limited government funding and runs in a way similar to private companies. For this reason, early registration is very important for affordability.

“Those who register early always get it at a price you would not believe,” he added.

He also warned Nigerians against falling into the hands of scammers. He advised the public to only use official channels such as the FHA website or offices in Asokoro and other zonal offices for registration.

Ojo further revealed that FHA was set to commission Nigeria’s tallest and biggest shopping mall on 3rd Avenue in Gwarinpa, Abuja.

He said the mall would have 59 shops, four floors, and a penthouse hall with 250 seats.

According to him, FHA is committed not only to housing but also to infrastructure development nationwide. He said the progress made so far reflects President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to reducing Nigeria’s housing deficit.

At the same event, FHA Executive Director of Project Implementation, Mr. Remy Omowaye, explained that the new road network included three major access roads. He said one of the roads also serves as a collector route because of the estate’s challenging terrain.

“This area was mountainous. We had to apply high-level professionalism to build these roads while maintaining quality standards. The road will now improve access to the estate and connect it to nearby areas,” Omowaye said.

He added that the First Avenue road is 12 meters wide, while the 13th Crescent serves as a residential street.

One resident, Dr. Bitrus Ndangra, praised the project. He said it had solved a three-year access problem for people living in the estate.

“We used to park our cars outside the estate. But now, with this road, we can drive to our homes. It has improved both movement and security,” he said.
