The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has granted administrative bail to former Sokoto State Governor and current Senator for Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, after hours of interrogation over alleged financial misconduct.
Tambuwal, who also served as Speaker of the House of Representatives, arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Monday, August 11, 2025, at about 11:16 a.m., in response to an invitation from the anti-graft agency. He was questioned over allegations of fraudulent withdrawal of approximately ₦189 billion during his tenure as governor, said to be in contravention of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

A senior EFCC official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Tambuwal was granted administrative bail after meeting the preliminary requirements set by investigators. He is expected to leave the commission’s facility once the bail conditions are fully met.
EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, also confirmed the development on Tuesday night but declined to give further details.
The investigation is ongoing, and while no formal charges have yet been filed in court, the case is expected to remain in public focus given Tambuwal’s prominence in Nigerian politics.
