A deadly accident happened on Monday morning, August 11, in Zaria, Kaduna State. Two fuel tankers and two Volkswagen Golf cars crashed into each other, causing several people to die. The crash caused a big explosion that made the situation worse.
People who saw the accident said it happened around 8:30 a.m. near Rochas Foundation School, along the Kaduna-Kano Expressway between Kwangila and Dan Magaji. The impact made both tankers catch fire, and thick black smoke could be seen from far away.
Although the exact number of deaths is not yet confirmed, witnesses said that everyone in the two Golf cars died immediately, except one driver who was badly burned and taken to the hospital. A security expert, Zagazola Makama, said there were five loud explosions after the crash, followed by a huge fire that covered the road.
An official from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who did not want to be named, confirmed the crash. He said rescue efforts were still going on. Emergency teams from FRSC, the police, and fire service were quickly sent to the scene. They blocked off the area and redirected traffic to keep people safe and allow rescuers to work.
Drivers using the Kaduna-Kano Expressway have been advised to be careful, follow road safety instructions, and stay away from the accident site until it is safe.
